What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
Washinton state

I live in Washington state and purchased a used vehicle last month.
The used car dealership & I sign a contract which is already sold to a local credit union.
On the contact I made a $2100 deposit. 500 was on a check, 1000 was cash and 600 was on the debit card. Now the used car dealership gave me a letter that i still owe them 1000 on the down payment and wants proof of payment. How can i prove I paid them in cash?

Most reputable businesses give a paper receipt when the transaction is conducted with cash. With car dealers, they may have listed the cash receipt as part of the contract, or they would have given you a separate receipt solely for the cash.

Are you trying to say you were foolish enough to hand over $1,000 in cash without requiring a receipt in return? You know what they say about a fool and his money...

Or if you DID get the receipt, I suggest that you find it and make a copy of it.

**A: where is the section on the contract that states $1000 cash received?

**A: where is the section on the contract that states $1000 cash received? Is there not a total deposit paid line item? The contract should also have served as the receipt but you should have gotten a separate receipt also.

On the contract that both party signed $2100 was the cash deposit. The signed contract itself is enough. A finance guy would not sign that without having all the money.
