I was ripped off by an auto mechanic, what should I do?
My response:

1. Roll over and play dead.

2. Picket in front of his business.

3. Buy a Colt .45 revolver.

4. Use your story as one of David Letterman's "Top Ten."

5. Start dating his wife. At least she doesn't have grease on her palms.

6. Fix your car yourself, and then "compliment" him on his fine work. Surprises him too.

7. Remove the engine from your car and say to him, "What happened - - it was there yesterday!"

8. Take out a full page ad in the New York Times.

9. Never drive again. That way, you won't have to deal with mechanics ever again.

10. Turn your car into a go-cart.

You're such a card, IAAL!

You don't say how you believe you were ripped off. Over-charged? Un-necessary parts replaced? Shoddy work? If you believe you have a case against this shop, you can haul him into small claims court. You can find info online for preparing and presenting your case.

You don't need an attorney and some counties don't even allow them. However, you must pay the filing fee and the burden of proof is on YOU!

I took a shop to court and it was an interesting experience. I lost my case, but I'll bet the fees he had to pay his attorney were more than the chump little couple of hundred bucks that I was seeking... so all in all, I still felt vidicated. Add to that the sweet feeling I got when his own lawyer knew he was lying! The moral victory was mine! :D
