I recently had some work done on my car. When the auto shop gave me a quote they told me right around $600.00. Although that was pretty high, I said go ahead and do the work, but if it appears as though it will go over $600.00 to call me so I could reevaluate where I was at financially to see if it was okay to proceed or stop where they were at I pay the $600.00 and finish myself. They said no problem it would be done the next day. A week later when they were finally done they called and told me the price was $750.00. I asked why they didnt call and he said he didnt realize he had went over the $600.00 mark. Then he said I can either pick up the car and pay the $750 with a warrenty or pay the $600 and take my chances without one. Is there any recourse if my car does break down?

Perhaps it did cost more; if he had called would you say "don't do the work?"

This is one that calls for some nice negotiation. Say you expect him to honor his agreement, and do it for the $600 and stand behind his work, and if not you'll feel compelled to tell everyone you know how disappointed you are in him and get help from the Better Business Bureau, and if needed, stand in the front of the place with a sign and say "DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS ESTABLISHMENT" So you gcan be a staisfied customer or not, it's up to him.
