In Washington state, does a couple automatically become legally separated six months (or at any other time prior to the final divorce decree) after filing for divorce? Is there a way to get a legal separation while a divorce is pending trial?

My response:

No, and no. You either file for a Dissolution of Marriage or Legal Separation - - one or the other. Once a choice is made, you can't get the other.

I think what you're trying to ask is this:

"I am involved in a divorce that includes other issues, like children, real estate property, and / or debts. I would like to get my divorce finalized while the other issues are pending. Is this possible?"

Let me know.
