Awol

I have a couple questions im hopin you or anyone else can help me with. I am National Guard and I went AWOL from basic training from Fort Benning on Sept.3of this year. I was 12 days away from grauating basic then got caught with tobacco and restarted to week 4, then I left. My questions are: 1) I have called the deserters hotline about my packet and they say "no" they have nothing on me yet, do I have to wait for them to say yes before I head to Sill or can I just go now? I have got a letter from my unit sayin i have been dropped from rolls. 2) If your advice is to wait for the yes answer can I go ahead and get a job while im waiting? 3)Being N.G is there anything i need to do different about getting out from the army? i.e papers from unit or anything. I am ready to get this done but I want to get it done right and get out and move on with my life. Any help is appreciated, thanks! Iowa

I was also former national guard and went awol. I went to sill and was there for 2 weeks. There was a screw up with the paperwork from my unit. You may have some issues if you got any njp over the tobacco use fyi. When you go get there by monday morning to get the ball rolling. You may want to go to your unit and see if you are dfr from the rolls. Just be advised you may not get the whole truth from your unit, it may be hard to get a direct answer. The faster you do it the better and get on with life. Good luck!!

awol

:Dwhile i was awol I worked for three months, as a car sales man. I sold a car to two local police officers one county sheriff and even showed cars to the head recruiter who processed a waiver for me and he dint recognize me shows how much they care. anyways you can get a job yet its up to how much your local police wants to look for awols. most police are too bussy to care about you yet others will answer any warant. anyway I went awol from fort sill in basic, and I live in oklahoma- convieniant huh. to sell cars in oklahoma you have to have a state license I was able to get one before warant was issued, and passed back ground check. it sucked looking over shoulder all the time but i needed money. I would still advise going back before being dfr,d and get out the right way I have posted my experience at fort sill pcf and would advise not going the awol route. their is a better way out as you will soon find out when you talk to the first sgt. well best of luck and just think long and hard before you jump. dopplehertz!!!!!!
