My husband, who is an indepentant owner operator, took his truck (Western Star Tractor) into a business (2 hours from our home) to have work done to the motor. We dropped the truck off on Monday, called on Tuesday to find out what the problem was with the engine, was told what needed to be repaired, they stated they would call back with an estimate, no one ever called. On Wednesday the shop forman told us the estimate and that it would be done by that evening, my husband tried to call later in the day and only received the answering service even though the shop is open until midnight. He then called several times on Thursday, after being transferred each time to a different person he only got the shop forman's voice mail. After leaving serveral messages we finally recieved a call late Thursday afternoon stating the truck repairs were finished but they still needed to test it. Late Friday morning we receive a call stating the truck had been tested and the amount of the bill, my husband told him we would be there to pick it up and pay the bill that evening. We arrive at the garage about 5 p.m., we wrote a check from my husband's business account. The clerk ran the check through a check service and the check was refused for one of their coded reasons: "Although no unpaid check information is on file, Certegy did not have sufficient information available to approve the transaction, or this transaction exceeded a pre-established limit." Of course, by this time we were starting to get a little ticked off about the whole run around. A sign on their wall in the office clearly states they accept payment of check, cash, mastercard, and visa. No one could explain to me why it wouldn't got through. We couldn't get the check cashed at a local bank there because our bank was not affiliated with any of them. So we drove at total of 4 hours for nothing and my husband has lost work because of this whole ordeal. I would like to know as a small business owner can we bill them for the loads he was unable to deliver and take? Can we bill them for our expense of driving 4 hours for nothing? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
