Back child support

I have been forced to represent myself due to lack of funds.
My son is 1 year old and i have never received child support. We have a hearing in dec. as i have petitioned the court for emergency child support. My question is. Can i ask for back support if no prior paperwork has been filed. If there was to be paperwork filed what was it and how do i find it. where do i find laws concerning my right to back child support?
