I am selling property that I owe in Texas, and I found out that taxes are owed on the property from the year that I was not the owner. I want ot know who is liable to pay these delinquent property taxes?
Property taxes attach to the land, rather than to the owner who should have paid them. You'll have to pay the back taxes to clear title before closing. You can then turn around and sue the prior owner, maybe. Why didn't your escrow company discover the unpaid taxes when you bought the property? That's one of escrow's main functions.
