I live in oregon and was recently denied employment based on an unfavorable consumer report. The only item that showed on the report was a conviction from 1986. At the time of conviction the crime was given immediate misdemeanor status by the judge. I served a little over 1 year of a three year probation sentence before being released from the probation obligation. On the report that was issued to my prospective employer it stated that I was convicted of a C class felony and was still on probation. I wonder if this information can even be included due to its age, and how to get the report changed to reflect the actual court decision. I do have a copy of the original court docs showing the final determination. Please help.

I was denied based solely on the info in the report. I was upfront about it with the employer and they said they would love to hire me, but because of the report they weren't allowed to according to their corporate policy. The employer had an outside agency called Commercial Information Systems Inc. do the report.

Were you denied employment based solely on the criminal conviction, or were you denied employment because you did not reveal you had a prior conviction if/when you were asked about it (whether on an application form or during an interview)?

Also - do you know who conducted the background check? Was it the employer directly or did they use an outside agency?
