What is the name of your state? Texas

Back in 2004 I wrote a check for $20 that ended up bouncing. I did not take care of it for a year or so. By the time that I took care of the check, it had already gone into warrant status. I did pay the check and the fees associated with it, and I assumed that to be the end of it. I know I know, shouldn't assume anything. I was irresponsible in handling this situation. I was scheduled for a court date, that I never went to. I did not realize that I was supposed to go to court. I moved around this time, and some of my mail didn't get forwarded, but no excuse.

Fast forward to 2 months ago. I went to renew my driver's license. As I was leaving, a sheriff caught up to me, and informed me that I had a warrant for my arrest for theft by check. So I was arrested. I bonded out.

I was given a number to call for the judge, and I ended up speaking with an investigator for the DA's office. He said that because I do not have any criminal history, and have never been arrested before, that they would let me plea bargain this charge (a class B offence) down to a class C. I have to pay $400 for a fine, and court costs.

I am now ready to take care of this, and I have the $400. I just want to make sure that this is the best option for me. I did write the check, and I want to take care of it. I also want to make sure that I am not agreeing to something that is not in my best interest. I have the plea agreement papers with me, so if there is any information needed from this, let me know and I can type it.

Sorry for the length of the post, but I know that much information is usually needed in order to get an accurate view of the situation.

Thanks in advance for any advice!!!

no one can tell you what you should or should not do. That is a personal decision that you must make on your own.

The agreement that you were offered sounds quite fair IMHO.

Thank you. Yes I know that ultimatly I have to decide, but I don't know much about the law in this situation, and I was wondering if it sounded like a good deal. Thank you for your opinion. I realize that it is just that, your opinion, and I should not base any legal decisions, but I still appreicate it!!

Thank you again!!!!
