Here is what I've done. I chased down a person who almost ran me over with her vehicle while I was on my bicycle, yelled at her what she's doing, then as she replied rudly I tore of her sideview mirror - the mirror glass inside housing on her old cheap import car.


Pressently, she called police, complained building manager. Cops spoke to her, then spoke to some other folks, I don't know what's going on. They have yet to speak to me.

I did file my own complaint with building manager after she filed hers. By the way, she was going 35 in 15, blow two stop signs, went really fast past a security guart who were yelling at her to slow down. I was riding behind another vehicle, going 18 mph, I never saw her coming from behind (I do have mirrors), and she almost ran over me. Just the post factums.


What is going on with police not talking to me yet? What are they doing?

What kind of trouble could I be facing?

What to do now, what's my strategy? Can I say mirror was an accident, and emphasize that she almost killed me? What's my game plan?

Where did you get your radar gun to know her speed? How did you know your speed? I wasn't aware that bicycles had speedometers.

We can't read the police officer's mind as to why he hasn't spoken to you yet.

I have a computer on the stem that shows my speed and cadence. I know I was going 18 mph behind a car. She came out of no where, fast enough for me not to see her in the review mirror, it was the closet ever a car came to me. She passed me and the car in front of me, and kept on going at high rate of speed - I could tell. Speed limit, 15, I was going 18, she must have been going 35, because I chased after her at 27 and she still kept accelerating away very fast. Going past a stop sign and speed bumps never slowing down, past a security guart who yelled at her to slow down, then past another stop sign, coming to a stop when traffic got tight at a light, yapping on her cell, like nothing happened.



I have the obvious questions.


Am I facing crime or a misdemenor? What kind? What could be a charge? Can I go to jail for this? What could happen?

What can I do to protect myself?

Yes, it is a crime. I don't know what you're going to be charged with. No, you are not likely to go to jail.

Okay, worst case scenario; you'll be diagnosed with cancer tomorrow and come to find out, you've got a month to live. 'Least worst' case scenario, you'll be ordered to pay damages awarded to (if they are awarded to) the woman who's car you decided it'd be a good idea to rape, and maybe a fine issued by the court. No one here can really tell you what's going on at this point if the police haven't even contacted you about the issue. You could be looking at property damage, most likely, if anything. It's tough to say when someone asks for advice on something that you yourself haven't even obtained enough useful information on to be able to relay it to us so we can help you.

I say your best bet would be to wait until you are contacted, get everything straightened out and come back with more information once you know what's going on. Til then, we can't magically tell you what's going on.
