missouri springfield. hello and help our LL has started a court process to evict us due to non payment. reason being each time it rains hard here we have a water bed and on three occasions promised to fix the leak. the last time 8 days ago it took our bed a week to dry out he never gives us a reciept and now claims in this summomns we owe double what we do . also utilities are in his name and he has threatened to turn them off my girl friend is developmentally disabled . and i just got laid off help please

You can't pay the rent, you can't rent the apartment.
The title of your post is wrong...doesn't sound like a bad landlord to me.
 
If you need the roof repaired, you must send a written request for it to the LL and mail it by certified mail, return receipt requested. This proves you made a request to have something fixed. If he fails to do so, you can contact the clerk of courts about the correct procedure to rent withhold without being evicted. If you have attempted to rent withhold on your own without contacting the clerk, you can be evicted.
