What is the name of your state? NY
when property is sold on courthouse steps, after judgement of foreclosure, What is sold, address of property,
or legal description ?
address on paperwork, note, mortgage, etc. is correct, legal description is incorrect.

The legal description governs.

If you buy a piece of land with an incorrect legal description at a foreclosure sale, the only way to get the problem solved is by hiring a lawyer and having a quiet title lawsuit, to show that the correct legal description was really the one you bought.

Thanks very much.
Any opinions on this problem?
Foreclosure sale takes place, incorrect legal description, lender retains
title, sheriff shows up at address to evict owners, owners direct sheriff to
legal description, owned by neighbor, any ideas what next step would be?
