What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? california

I have been getting a direct deposit advance from my SSI/Va pension - can the creditor take this money? I have to appear in court next week on a hearing on exemption claim. I also grocery shop and order things for my elderly mom on-line in which she reimburses me with a check. Can they take this money?

Typically not. SS and Veternas disabilitiy payments are normally exempt from attachment. There are exceptions, but they are rare and they typically involve fraud or some time of fraudulent transfer or a conversion of an exempt asset to non-exempt.

HOWEVER -
If you spend the money and then get reimbursed by somebody else, THAT will no longer be exempt income.
