What is the name of your state? California

I made a deposit at my bank to my checking account (a well known banking institution). Three months later, I noticed a $600 withdrawl on my statement but didn't recognize the name for the debtor. When I called my bank to see who the money was paid to, I was told my bank took the money out. I was not notified of any intention to withdraw by my bank, nor did I give permission. Upon investigation, my bank stated that I made a deposit in error by entering the deposit as $800 (for example) but only deposited $200. In fact though, I had deposited two checks totaling the entire $800 correctly. It was the bank that erroniously entered my $700 check as only a $100 deposit. This error by them caused me to be short of funds when I needed the money and it took a great deal of time and effort on my part to get the money back from them. Is this legal for them to do? Do I have any further recourse available? If the tables were turned, they would have charged me interest! What is the name of your state?

Go talk to the bank management and ask for reimbursement for any actual and direct damages in dollars that you suffered.

If that doesn't work, sue them in small claims court.
