I live in Australia and twelve years ago I was employed as a wardrobe master on a big show and had pay as you go income tax. Unfortunately the accountant I used did not take out anywhere near the correct amount of tax and as a result I owed an amount of about 2500 dollars which I wasn't told about until 18 months after the event.. Because of my age and limited skills in a limited area of work I have had to pay $20.00 per week to reduce the amount. Sometimes I have a month or so of no work. Now they are asking for $100 per week and the total amount is just under $15,000 - being interest on the original amount. I just cannot ever see myself being able to settle the amount - I rent from a friend and own very little - my average weekly wage is about $300 - and am totally stressed over the matter. Would declaring bankruptcy assist me at all and if so what would it mean - my limitations in areas of travel etc
Thak you so much for your consideration.
