What is the name of your state? VA

Does either parent filing for bankruptcy have any bearing on child custody?

The parent filing claims it was from the relationship with the ex and now can better improve their and the child's quality of life by "starting over again".

no, but the parent not filing should understand that if any of the debts were held jointly, they will be solely responsible for paying the entire balance.

it does not matter what they claim
