What is the name of your state? NV
My question is how does one find bankruptcy records that are over 20 years old. I need to find mine**************.....I have a creditor who states I didn't file on them and now I have to pay it and I know I did I just have to find the old records. I only keep personal records for 10 years and then I discard them.
Thank you

You have a creditor that is looking for a payment, and you stopping paying 20 years ago? The statute of limitations has surely run. Is there MORE to this?

What it is is a student loan that was taken out in 1976. We filed bankruptcy some where around 1982-1984 and I can't remember when. I need to find my old records and don't know where to go to find them. When we filed at that time you could file on a student loan.
I never received any notification over the years that I needed to pay it and it never showed on my credit report.
I have moved several times but always filed my taxes and I always put in a change of address.
Now they claim that I never filed on them and that I need to pay this. Doesn't student loans have a statute of limitations (or at one time did they)

Thank you

I never knew that there was a time that you could discharge student loans. Have you tried PACER or calling the local BK courts?

Go to www.uscourts.gov. Click on the BK part, then go from there. PACER (which is explained on the website) is an electronic log of the court system. BK papers are there, but it might not go back as far as you need it to.

Prior to 1998, student loans could be discharged in bk if they had been in default for 7 years prior to filing.
I'd contact the bk court where you filed and ask how to go about accessing records that have been archived. Is your old lawyer still around?
A good lesson for others. Keep those bk papers forever.
