bedwetting store sells defective product, refuse to refund

We bought a bedwetting alarm system for our kid from an online store Bedwetting Store - Bedwetting Alarms, Waterproof Bedding and More!. The product does not work as claimed. Customer service asked us to wash underpants first and test product using saline solution and indeed it works.

But when we had our kid use it again it does not work! We want to return and get refund but company say the product works in their lab tests and the product was used already so we can't get refund.

So what they're saying is that the prodouct works with saline solution so it should work with kid's urine. But obviously it does not. And how would we know if the product works or not if we will not let our kid use it?!

I am really a pissed off (pun intended) consumer. A legal advice would help.
