I would like to approach a large company to purchase a Software Asset they develop and market. This company is not specifically a software development firm but they have acquired a few software development companies to diversify their business holdings.

I am a previous employee of the company, originally with one of the software firms they acquired. I was specifically involved with the software product I would like to acquire.

To my knowledge the software product is not for sale. For various reasons I believe it would be a good time to make a play to purchase the product asset rights.

How should I approach the situation?
