What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York. I have an order of support which requires the father of my son to pay 70% of unpaid medical. He is refusing to pay uncovered dental bills(which are relatively small) because he claims since I do not go to a participating dentist in his or my dental insurance he is not obligated to pay. Is this true?

What exactly does your order say?
and ARE you taking the child to doctors that are not covered by dad's medical plan? if yes, then why? and are you taking the child to a dentist not covered in your dental plan? if yes, then why?
The order does not specify any thing other than I am responsible for 30% and he is responsible for 70%. So I have submitted copies of bills to him and he goes through, figures out what his insurance would have not covered or what the co-pay would have been and will adjust his reimbursement to me. If he sees that this is not a participating doctor according to his plan he claims he spoke with his attorney and is free of payment. This is recently new denials of payments-tho I have not regularly sought reimbursement. I am trying to find out if he can choose what to reimburse and what not to based on his "claim" of what his attorney stated. I do not have an attorney and would have to scrap to obtain one if necessary.
I am taking my son to the doctors I have taken him to since he was born or nearly close to that. My other son also attends the same doctors. I have chosen my dentist because many years ago she was part of my participating doctors(for nearly 1o years) then I lost my job, went back to school and obtained a new job. My children are very comfortable with this dentist and this dentist submits the claims to both his insurance and mine, leaving us with very small unpaid portions.

The dentist is not a participating doctor on the list. Is it mandatory that I change my doctors of almost 13-14 years to one on his participating list?
We have joint custody, with me as the custodial.

Does not say LEGAL cutody.

Sorry, this has all been a very sore subject the last few years. Actually, I know for a fact the problem is not stemming from my son's father but his step-mother telling him, the insurance is in her name and she fights EVERYTHING tooth and nail!!!!Damn! If I have to pull teeth then I should at least get the laughing gas!!!
