I live in Indiana, the person that I live with owns half of a business with me. He is being sued for a debt from a past business venture and both of us for another debt. I have agreed to have money taken out of my wages to pay off the one debt which is in both our names. It is small. My partner's other form of employment is self employment. When I went to court they said that since he is self employed that they will pursue our business for his debt. What I want to know is can I assume his debt and pay it out of my wages also. I know that you can not have two garnishments but if I pay off the smaller one , can I assume his debt? Please reply a.s.a.p. I have never been sued before!
