What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Colorado

I recently received a court summons from a collection agency for about $3k in medical bills from 4 years ago. I contacted the collection agency to discuss settlement/payment arrangement and the payment they offered me was way outside what I can reasonably afford. I make $13 an hour and they were requesting $350 a month. Then said the lowest they could go would be $300 when I said I couldn't afford the 350. The 300 is still way more than I can afford as I live alone and just rent itself takes up half my income.

Do I try contacting the collection agency again to TRY and negotiate a reasonable payment? If this goes to court and I lose, will the judgement against me also be a payment this high? Are they allowed to take so much money that I can no longer afford to live?

Would it be best to just file for bankruptcy?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.
