What should I do if I am being sued and the summons requires that I come to another part of state and I can't go? Do I have the legal right to ask that it be moved to the city where I live?

The summons requires that you answer, not physically appear at this stage. If the venue (the place where you are being sued) is improper, the court would dismiss on your motion.

You could have an attorney handle this for you.

If it is a small claims action, they often require that both parties be local.
