What is the name of your state? California

A PI may be trying to serve me a summons on behalf of a homeonwer's insurance company lawyer. They wrongly believe I am liable for a fire that burned down a former neighbor's home. The house I lived in was owned by someone else, but they are going after me, instead. A PI called another neighbor and left a number, trying to interview him on this issue. I have had someone suspiciously trying to contact me outside my apt building. The PI just might be doing an asset search to see if I have deep pockets. It seems he could've served me by now. I live hundred of miles from the county where I live, when the fire happened. My current county of residence has no record of a summons issued for me, but they say that their database might not be up to date, and to check back in 2 weeks.

I don't want to seem like I'm avoiding being served. Shall I call the PI? Shall I hide and delay?

Are you an illegal alien?

In any event, call the PI and ask him to serve you.

You do not want to avoid service and have a judgment entered against you. It can happen. They can serve you by publication; you'd never know about it!
