I broke my lease and gave my landlord over 60 days notice. He asked me when I was going to be out by and I told him January 31st. He then told me that he has someone that wanted to move in. I have been staying somewhere else recently, so he decided to put all my stuff in the basement. Can he do this, my rent is paid up till the 31st?

Well yes and NO.....YES if he intended to do some work on the apartment and he didnt want your stuff to be damaged....

BUT it still would be covered under HIS homeowners policy, if he damaged or stuff got stolen....since HE moved it, he took responsiblity for it, if he left it in the apartment and someone broke in and stole your stuff..he would NOT be liable.

NOW if he has the place rented...then you can sue him for any damage to your stuff PLUS the security deposit AND the rent for January...since itis illegal for him to get FULL rent from 2 people for the same apartment.
