I work for an employer who will give five days of pay for the death of a close family member. They require you bring in an obituary or some other proof of the death. Is this a legal practice? Thank you.

It is not illegal. It is not terribly common, but some companies do require some type of proof of the death.

It is perfectly legal and in my part of the country, not at all uncommon.

Five days is extremely generous. Most companies, at least where I am, only offer three. Don't knock it if they want proof you're entitled to it.
