What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? WI
An employee wants to consider his time off bereavement leave 2 years after the death of his parents to bury the ashes/memorial service. Here is what the handbook says:
COMPANY allows three (3) days off each year without pay for a death in your immediate family. For unusual circumstances you may request up to two (2) additional days. These additional days must be approved by the employee’s supervisor. A copy of the obituary notice can be requested.
Immediate family includes: parents, spouse, children, brothers, sisters, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, grandparents, or grandchildren. Funeral leave for the death of anyone other than an immediate family member will require prior approval from your immediate supervisor.
This this time off be classified as bereavement 2 years later? If so, could this be a yearly event?
Thanks.
