I would like to know aboout the best inteest I called the court today and they said it will be about 2 months befroe this happens and that the person doing it is not a social worker nor a psychiatris or physcologist just a person basically . What they do is interview each of us once do a back ground check but make no recommendations jsut fact finding for the judge so what the point? If they don't make a recommendation nor look at all the evidence jsut talking to each of us will be a he said she said Can anyone give some insight? Plus it was ordered that he have a substance abuse screening done but he is resposible to take it they don't screen him so what gives?

Dear Natural mom,
In my state they are call Guardian Ad Litem's. I just had an experience with one and she happened to be a lawyer. I am a stay home mom and my ex wants the kids. He and his new wife both work etcc... I thought she would make the right recommendation but she didn't. She didn't talk to any of the social workers I asked her too, nor anyone on my side of family. She recommended my ex and I have joint physical custody with me picking kis up 4 towns away after school, and keep them at my house until he gets out of work (he owns own business) and he is to pick up, I am to take kids when he goes on business or vacation with wife. I would not receive child support, so how does this person expect me to do all this for my ex, as I will now have to go to work. You are right about who will this person believe. I am currently hiring an expert for my side to evaluate her report and talk with the people who she should have talked with in the first place. The bills are killing me but my kids are worth fighting for as his home is not a stable home. Document everything... even if you think it is trivial, because in the long run it will show what kind of person your ex really is, not what he pretends to be.

Mag 63 did your lawyer advise you about any of this mine seems to be not putting to much attention to this case and Iam doing alot of the leg work, much cheaper but still frustrating. Iam waiting for him to return the call from a few days ago about this subject, since Iwas shocked to hear that this person doing the interview is not going to be a doctor or social worker.Every time I tell the lawyer the latest installment he cannot believe how much of a s.b. he is but still is not doing any directing so I do alot of investigating myself to educate myself about things he should be advising me. My ex is very much a looney tune it is a shame I didn't take a good look before, but sometimes your should listen to people when they voice thier strong opinone about someone. How did you start the process to get the private evalution?

in MO they are also called guardian ad litems. they are lawyers and they basically represent the kids and ensure that they don't get stepped on in the process.

ours interviews both parents and the children. they have interviewed our daycare as well. i have never had one come to our home - i wish they would. it would also show they were doing a thorough investigation.

the GAL makes a recommendation to the court. sometimes the court follows the recommendation of the GAL, sometimes they don't.
