I'll keep the information here brief...

On Sat Nov 5th, BestBuy.com listed the new PS3 as a pre-order for $599 (the estimated retail price). About an hour after the listing was live, it was taken down. Many people were able to place orders before it was unavailable again.

I received an order confirmation e-mail that stated my order will ship between the 17th and 24th of Nov. I used a gift card, promotional codes, and a credit card to place the order. I called BB to confirm everything went through ok and that there were not any issues at all.

Monday rolls around, and people are saying the Corporate BB office has decided to cancel all orders. I didn't believe it so I called the Corporate office and they confirmed that our orders would be cancelled.

Despite the fact I believe this was just a scam to get more publicity for BB, I have no proof that the intention was to scam customers.

BB sent an e-mail for the cancelled order and said if we used a gift card and no longer have the gift card, that we have to call the toll free number to be issued a new gift card.

BB also sent a $10 coupon in that same e-mail. Seems like an insult because I paid around $1300 for the PS3. (I ordered two using two different cards)

I called the BB sales rep and asked to have the new card, they said I have to wait until my ordered is set to cancelled before they can send out a new card, so I have to check until it is full processed (which can take a couple days).

I asked if my coupon codes will be refunded as well, and they said no. Since it is a one time use coupon, they can only be used once- no matter if the order is cancelled or returned. This means that I lose roughly $100-$150 worth of coupon codes because my order was cancelled. I told them I was never aware of that information, and they said it was in their Terms of Conditions. I opened the ToC and asked where specifically.

The ToC clearly state: Coupon cannot be replaced if it is lost, stolen, deleted, or if you cancel or return your purchase.. "If you cancel or return your purchase"

1) I never cancelled the purchase 2) I never returned the purchase. It says nothing about BestBuy canceling the purchase. Then they told me that it is an internal policy that is not available on the website.

BB claimed that the pre-order system was a glitch, and that there never should have been the ability to pre-order the PS3.

What's your take on this?
Are they required to continue with the order (since they sent an e-mail stating that it will ship on the 17th, and after I placed the order the service rep said it was ok and will also ship on the 17th)?
Are they required to refund the coupons I used?
Despite the fact the Terms of Conditions were at the bottom of the page, I did not have to read them before placing the order. I believe there was something on the page that says by clicking submit you automatically agree to the terms. Does this help me at all?

No, they are not required to "continue" the order. Maybe they can't get as many as their supplier said they could. I'm not sure about the coupon, but YOU didn't lose money on the coupon, because YOU didn't pay for it, right?

No, they are not required to "continue" the order
- Despite the fact that:
1) it was available on the website
2) the CSR said everything was fine and the order would go through
3) the order status shows that it is available
4) the original e-mail states that everything is ok

Maybe they can't get as many as their supplier said they could.
- The reason they said was because it was a glitch in their system, and somehow the item was listed and somehow available for sale. Not sure if this does or does not make a difference.

I'm not sure about the coupon, but YOU didn't lose money on the coupon, because YOU didn't pay for it, right?
- The coupon can only be used once. Since I used the coupon to place the order, the coupon is now voided. Meaning I am not allowed to ever use the coupon again for another order.

Maybe their computer made a mistake. It was programmed by a person. People make mistakes. As long as they refund your money, there are no damages.

Although the coupon code was for a one-time use, since you didn't pay for it, you don't have damages.

YOU SUFFERED NO DAMAGES, and companies are allowed to correct their mistake. I read your first post. Nothing that you added later changed anything.

I suffered damages because I lost money in the form of coupons. Or are we only legally able to lose green money?

Appreciate the information and your time :)

I was waiting for that. Do you have a copy of any of the coupons that you used? What does the fine print on each coupon read? Please post it.

The coupon says "Valid at BB stores or BB.com $3 limit on a single cd/dvd/box set.. additional restrictions apply" It never lists the additional restrictions though.

You cannot buy coupons. it might even be illegal. Maybe the additional restrictions are listed on the website, in the terms and conditions that you admitted to not reading.

I was waiting for that.
- Why do I have to pay for the coupon for me to have a case though?

That's like saying I can win a coupon for a free $500,000 house, and then I get the coupon and go to redeem it, and they accept it, then cancelled the order and say that the house isn't for sale and that I can no longer use the coupon for another house since I already redeemed it.

- I didn't buy the coupon, but I paid $207 for chances to win coupons, and I won $280 worth of coupons. I spent $$ and won coupons, the only way to obtain the coupon is to spend money and win the coupon.

When you say PAY, do you mean the postage that you spent mailing the SASE envelopes?

If so, then maybe you can contact someone at BB to help you. I still am not sure that you will be reimbursed for the postage, envelopes, etc.

I called another BB rep and they also stated that my coupons will stay void since the order was cancelled. They said that this appears in the restrictions (something that did not come with the coupons). The coupon does say "Additional restrictions apply"
