What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

Is it against the law if you are under the age of 18, riding a bicycle, without a helmet and riding on sidewalks and pedestrian lanes?

(a) A person under 18 years of age shall not operate a bicycle, or ride upon a bicycle as a passenger, upon a street, bikeway, as defined in Section 890.4 of the Streets and Highways Code, or any other public bicycle path or trail unless that person is wearing a properly fitted and fastened bicycle helmet that meets the standards of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI Z 90.4 bicycle helmet standard), the Snell Memorial Foundation's Standard for Protective Headgear for Use in Bicycling, or the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM F-1447 standard). This requirement also applies to a person who rides upon a bicycle while in a restraining seat that is attached to the bicycle or in a trailer towed by the bicycle.

that is from California Bicycle Helmet Law

it says that you cant ride on a street, bikeway and whatever it says.

but does this include sidewalks and pedestrian lanes?

if there is some way out of having to wear a helmet under the age of 18, while riding a bike, legally, please let me know.

thank you.

Someday you'll be an adult and can ride around without your helmet like I do. Just be careful and don't ride too fast.

I've got news for you kids, who think adults are lucky,
Own their own cars and everything's just ducky,
Going to bed whenever they want to,
If that's what you think I got a flash for you.
It's better than that, take Saturday and multiply it
Times 54 add 30 more. It's better than that.

We have a chocolate éclair about as big as your head,
Just before noon before we get out of bed.
We do the things you're not allowed to do,
And then we do things you haven't thought of too.
Hang on to your hat, hang on to your baloney sandwich.
Take 50 grand to Disneyland. It's better than that.

And if you think that our days are extra warm and sunny,
A big pile of toys, a pocketful of money,
With nothing to fear because we're big and tall,
We're never in school because we know it all.
It's better than that, more comfy than a secret hideout.
By quite a bit, just think of it, it's better than that.

As long as you ride on the sidewalk and NEVER cross the street, you MIGHT not get ticketed. So, I guess you'll be riding around the block lots and lots of times.

Dude, wear the helmet. If you saw what your brains would look like if you didn't have one on and you crashed, you wouldn't go without it.

I am an adult. I will NEVER ride my bike without one. Cuz, you know what. I crashed and went head first. I rode 35 miles home after that because I did have a helmet on.

If I ever caught my children without one, there was heck to be paid, along with long groundings.
