What is the name of your state? California
I posted a message about 2months ago about a bill collector calling my home and refering to himself as investigator so-and-so, calling my brothers house and asking where I worked, being rude, all sorts of stuff. I received advice from someone in this forum and they advised me to write a letter stating I will pay and how much I will pay and send it certified, return receipt requested. I did and as soon as they got the letter they sent my account to some law firm. I received a letter yesterday, it stated that I send them the entire amount. I called them, spoke with a paralegal he said to pay this amount or we will ( take further actions) sue. What to do ??????? Please help

Sorry Not brief

My response:

What do you mean by, "what to do?"

You pay the debt, or you suffer through the litigation process and then have your wages garnished when you lose the lawsuit.

That's "what to do."

It is a very common tactic for a debt collector to claim to be an attorney, paralegal or investigator.

Are you sure that you have been contacted by an attorneys office??

Go to http://www.martindale.com/ and see if the claimed firm is really valid, then look up their phone number independent of the one shown in the letter (another 'trick' of debt collectors). If you find that the letter is valid, then your only real options are to pay the debt or to wait for a lawsuit to be filed and a judgment rendered against you with the added attorney fees and court costs.
