My daughter received emergency room treatment while visiting New Jersey while living in Florida and having insurance in Pennsylvania. This happened in April of 2001. Now she is living in PA and in October of 2002--18 months after the fact and after insurance did their part--she got a bill asking for payment and it also had her last name spelled wrong. They did have her address in Philadelphia and it didn't have to be forwarded from Florida. Is she obligated to pay this so long after serice and not even having her name right?

The fact that her name is spelled wrong has absolutely nothing to do with her liability to pay the bill. It's still her, isn't it?

If she received the treatment, she is liable for her portion of the bill. The ONLY way she would not be liable is if PA has a statute requiring bills to be submitted within a span of time that this exceeds, AND if they cannot show that they'd tried to reach her previous. Check with the PA Insurance Commission.
