What is the name of your state? Georgia

i hope im on the right board for this question. I called my electric company to find a way to lower my bill so i could afford to pay for it. At that time i was told that they could put my bill at a monthly rate of 62 dollars. I accepted. I received a bill today for 187 dollars, which includes a 125 dollar deposit---no where in my conversation with the customer service representative did she mention that there would be a 125 dollar deposit. If she had , i wouldnt have taken the offer. Can they legally add a deposit to a bill without notifying me first? I have never been disconnected and have had this company for 2 years. thanks in advance

GA. Her's a good rule of thumb when dealing with anyone, especially creditors over the phone. GET IT IN WRITING, or in GA you can record it to help prove what was offered to you, but still always get it in writing. You never know, there could be some fine print on a contract you once signed, or clicked I AGREE TO ALL TERMS on, that says ' all oral representations are not binding, all terms need be in writing etc. If they won't giv eit to you in writing, chances are they are lying to you. At least get a fax # and address, send it via cerified mail so you have a return receipt, and write "as per our conversataion today I agree to your offer of X, as per our agreement I am sending you X amt of $ and will pay X monthly to resolve this debt" Then if they later try and back out you at least have a leg to stand on, but it is still always best to get it in writing from them.

I'm not sure about GA but here they routinely add deposits for various reasons your account may have qualified for. Because you agreed when you opened service there to abide by their policies with a 30 day notice. When they sent you the bill that is notice and typically you have 30 days to pay it. You can try asking to see their policy or what has made your account qualify for this deposit but do it quickly because chances are if its not paid or straightened out they will terminate service for non payment.
