What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? PA, but occurred in CT.
7-8 years ago, my husband was named as co-defendant in a banking mail fraud case along with about 15 other people. My husband pled no contest in return for the DA not seeking the maximum penalty, he also turned state's witness and helped convict the truly guilty parties. He was let off on probation, which he has completed. He agreed to pay his share of restitution, which was $24,000. He paid it in full. He has since purchased and sold a home. Now we are looking to purchase another home, and suddenly there is some kind of a judgment on him and these other people, totalling $800,000. This didn't come up on any credit checks or searches prior, only when doing title paperwork (we were supposed to close this month).
If he's already paid his restitution, shouldn't his portion of the judgment be cleared? He's going to try to get an attorney to review this, but I didn't know if anyone was familiar with this scenario. Any idea how long this could stay on his record? Thanks!
