Texas - The estimate done by my UM carrier's "people" indicates my vehicle is a total loss. I have an estimate by an independant body shop for about half of what they have the damage estimated at. Is there any way possible to keep them from totaling my vehicle and having my title re-issued as a salvage title? Or do I have to accept their appraisal?

You're telling me I have no choice but to accept the salvage title? The damage is strictly body work (new hood and fender and realinement of the front end is all it needs). There is nothing mechanically wrong with it. Even my carrier's appraiser stated it was because of the body work needed only that it would be totaled out. My body repair man is a person who actually knows what he is doing, has been doing this for over 30 years and has even built his own drag cars from the ground up!!! He isn't like most of today's mechanics and body repairmen - he can do more than take one part off and put another one on in it's place. He can fix it - for safe driving!! Evidently the carrier isn't too worried about the safety aspect of it. I've been driving it WRECKED for a MONTH!!!! If anything was going to happen to me it would have happened already!!!!

My response:

Hey, I don't care what you do, or if your mechanic "sits at the right hand of God."
You asked the questions, and I gave you the correct answers. If you don't like it, talk to "the hand."
