What is the name of your state? CA
I was turned away at the jail and advised to go back to court to get another book/release date because the jail hadn't received any paperwork on me. My court date was set for a few days after my first probation appointment, and when I seen my P.O. he told me I would have to make another appointment for a date after I was booked and released. I was wondering why. Do I have to be booked and released before the Probation department has control over me. I tried to call and ask the P.O. but haven't been able to catch him in.

You have to do what your probation officer told you to do.
Most definitely. I'm not going to cause him any trouble at all. The way he acted left me under the impression that he couldn't see me until after the book/release date. If that is true, I was just wondering why. I woldn't think there would be any difference if I got book/released before or after I see him.

Until you are "booked" they will no tlikely have all your proper records and the probation officer likely cannot act on your case.

Have you been before a judge? Did you plead guilty to a misdemeanor of some kind after appearing on a citation?

I'm not quite sure what is going on here. Were you cited and released for a misdemeanor and are now trying to get "booked" before arraingment?

If I had to guess, he was cited for a misdemeanor and appeared in court. The court apparently told him to report for booking and to meet with Probation - my guess would be so that that they could do a pre-sentencing report regarding his suitability for probation or other alternatives.

But it would be nice to have the actual story of what happened and why.
