What is the name of your state? Texas

My friend is Brazilian and married with an american man in Brazil. They are married for 7 years now and have one kid. She lives in Brazil and he lives in Houston Texas. She want to know what she need to do to get her visa and the american citizenship of the her kid. How much money they will need to invest to get that documents? Need a lawyer for that? How long it takes?

If they were legally married at the time the child was born, he is already a US citizen and it is just a matter of registering his birth and citizenship with the US Embassy in Brazil. As for her own documents, it is not a matter of investing money because these documents cannot be purchased. If she wants to immigrate to the US, her husband would have to petition for her permanent residence (green card). Then once she is in the US and is a permanent resident for a requisite period of time, she can apply for US citizenship.

They can do this on their own or with the assistance of an immigration attorney. An immigration attorney can be anywhere in the US since this is a federal practice.
