State of Florida. I resigned my position, after my employer broke a verbal contract promising my reassignment to a more lucrative position. I've been advised that it is difficult if not impossible to sue for such a thing in Florida due to 'right to work laws'. The company operates in Florida as a Ltd., although homebased with corporate offices in Ilinois. Might I pursue breach of contract legal action against them in Illinois and is that state friendlier to such actions? They furthermore reported to unemployment that my reasons for leaving were 'irrational' stating no instances of misconduct or detrimental behavour on my part. Are they allowed to do this despite having performed my job with excellence and having impeccable references to date? I am currently in the process of appealing the unemployment denial - although I feel it's an exercise in futility. The paper pusher in Tallahassee is clearly not partial and her decision seems to lend credence to this employers campaign of misinformation and libelous assertion, that my reasons for leaving were anything other than justified. Please help.
