I signed a written contract with my company, stating that I would be working for exactly 1 year (listed the ending day of my contract Dec. 18th, 2007). They said they didn't have any work for me and had to let me go. But, they hired somebody before they let me go and I had to train him. My boss also said that he couldn't afford me (I was being paid almost twice what everyone else was).
He told me that I signed a company policy in addition to our contract that says they are an at-will company. He laid me off in September, and I am out $14,000. I want to pursue the breach of his contract for the amount I am owed. Our contract has consequences if I were to terminate my year contract.
does my case hold water still?

from what I read of your contract I would say yes.

Oh, wait, I didn't read your contract and without doing so, it is very difficult to make any true call. For the amount of money you are talking about, have a local attorney take a look at it to see if you have any chance.

I agree - I would have the contract viewed by an employment or contract attorney in your area.

Thank you everybody. I spoke with an Attorney (Free Consultation) and my former boss spoke with her on the phone saying that he is not in the wrong because I signed the company policy stating it as an At-Will company. She says I still have a strong case because we had an Additional Contract. Now I have to Pay $250 an hour to retain her!!!
Do you think that Attorneys would take a case if there was no chance?

A reputable attorney wouldn't...but then, not all attorneys are reputable. One way to get more info is to have a free consultation with an attorney in a different firm and see what that person says.

A better way is find an attorney who will take the case on a contingency and not hourly basis. Then you KNOW they believe you have a claim, as none of us want to work for free :)
