I was wondering if anyone could help me out with the laws in Georgia concerning breaking a lease to purchase a home as well as how many people are allowed to occupy a one bedroom apartment and what happens when a change in family status may violate that rule.

There is no such thing as a "get out of lease because we bought a home" card. You need to work out with landlord how you and he can work to re-lease you from your lease.

You are responsible for the lease through the end AND the landlord in GA does not have the responsibility of "mitigating" your damages and re-renting the property through the end of your lease. He can leave apt vacant and still charge you rent.

The change in family status was it voluntary?

Such as pregnancy? or YOU decided to take in a family memebr? or YOU fought for custody of your kids/grandkids

Then YOU broke the lease.

Now if YOU were given custody because the parents were in JAIL, or dead that would be involuntary.
