Hello all:

I am a tenant in Nebraska. I entered into a 12-month lease. Now we are going to have a baby (did not know that when signed the lease). I want to break the lease becuase we need a home with washer and dryer and the apt does not have it. They want me to pay $250 deposit plus $600+ "cancellation fee". Yes, it is in the lease and signed it blindly since never thought this situation will arise, so I guess I have to live by the lease.
Howvere, I think a part of the lease may be invalid if the state law says how much a lord can charge as a penalty to tenants (in my case, it will be 170% of my monthly rent). Can anyone can tell me could there be any law that prevents lords from chraging beyond certain limit? If yes, where could I look for it? Thanks a lot in advance!
