Anyone can break a lease......but your question is can I break it without costing me any money?
Usually NO...... you have made a commitment to pay the rent till a certain date...unless the landlord agrees to let you out early you still owe it.
Now The landlord has a right NOT to lose on days rent.so the landlord must also mitigate damages by trying to re rent the apartment asap. If he advertises and it must be for the same rent you are aying and No one takes it you are liable to pay the rent until someone signs a lease.
If the landlord refuses to let you out of your lease, then you will have to take him to court, or he will sue you for the balance of the lease, and you will have to explain it to a judge, and a judge could tell the landlord you didnt try and re rent the place asap, you are entitled to zero.
BUT YOU WILL LOSE IF YOU DONT SHOW UP FOR A COURT DATE!
So be nice....tell him you are moving and ask him to run an ad and YOU will gladly show the apartment to prospective tenants.
Also take pictures before you leave to prove their is no damage.
Maybe your employer will pay for moving expenses or pay the rent for a month or two....This all has to be figured in the cost of a transfer of a job.
