I was notified by my company that I will need to relocate. I recently signed a lease at $650/mo and my landlord is telling me to break the lease I will have to:

1)pay them $1,500,
2)pay back a rental concession of $650(one months rent)and 3)lose my security deposit.

There was nothing in my rental agreement that I signed agreeing to any of the above three things. I can understand paying back the rental concession and losing the security deposit but $1,500 seems unreasonable. Being that I never signed anything to this effect do I have to pay this? What options do I have?

ABSOLUTLY NOT! It has to be written in the lease

What you are liable for is all the rent till they re-rent the place plus any damages plus any advertising etc.

When do you pay rent the 1st? when did you give notice, and when do you expect to leave?

Also you must pay the FULL the rental concession,MAYBE how was it structured? pay 12 months get the 13th free, or $50 off each month?.... If you got any concession and used it you will have to pay it back....if you have not used it...like getting the 13th month free, you owe ZERO, since the landlord did not lose any money. If you got 1st month free then you owe the FULL $650.

The $1500 is totally Illegal.....where is it written?

So write them a letter send it certified mail, return reciept and you have given a 30 day notice to move, the Landlord has a DUTY to mitigate damages by re-renting the apartment asap, and that you will expect them to do a move out report before you hand them the keys.

AND MAKE SURE YOU BOTH SIGN IT AND GET A COPY!

BUY 2 or 3 disposable cameras and take LOTS of pictures, especially when they are there...it wil intimidate them.

And that you will expect the reurn of the security deposit 14 days after you vacate.
