Breaking an Adjunct Instructor Contract - any ramifications?

I live and work in New Jersey. I signed a adjunct instructor contract with a university but have been offered a better paying position. The contract advises that the university is able to fire without any notice but says nothing about my rights or conditions of employment. Could anything happen if I canceled my contract?
