I live in Colorado Springs, and I had broke the lease 2 months before the lease ends. The reason why I did not finish my lease is because I fear of my safety living in that apartment after 3 shootings in 4 months time. The complex did not had adequate security and they finally placed a security fence 4 months after the last shooting incident.
What is my legal right as a tenant for my safety? Is this an adequate reason for breaking the lease?

3 incidentd of shootings in apartment complex

Just to let you know...My brother also lives in Colorado Springs. He also lived in an apartment complex where there were numerous shootings in a short amount of time. He is disabled, so my Mom and I, as Guardians, went to the landlord and asked if he could break the lease due to concerns for his safety. The landlord said no. Then we went to the housing department, becuse he is on section 8. The housing department also said no. You will most likely be held liable for any rent money or whatever that the landord lost due to you breaking the lease. I hope this answers your question.
