This doesn't quite fall into homeowners insurance as I rent and do not have renters insurance. A piece of musical gear of mine that I had dissasembled for survey was knocked off of a table by a roommate/visitor. As you may suspect when I entered the room shortly after the incident the stories of the occupants, who were drunk, were mixed and contradictory. I don't know what to do as this device only cost me $500 USD.

Since you dont have renters insurance, you should tell your friend(s) that they should pay or at least help pay to replace the equipment. If that doesnt work you can always try small claims court.

Renters insurance is generally pretty cheap. Anywhere from $50.00 to $400.00 on average for a year, depending on how much personal property you have. You might want to look into getting it, just in case something else happens down the line. Not only does it protect you from damage or loss of your personal property, but it will protect you from lawsuits in case one of your drunk buddies decides to hurt himself and sue you. Good luck!
