In December of 1996 I moved out of my apartment (in Michigan) rather than be evicted because I realized I could never afford the rent. I was then charged rent for the next 4 months that the apartment was unoccupied.

Fastforward 3 years later, there is a judgment against me for non payment. I agreed to pay each month. I havent paid for the past 2 months. There was a garnishment placed on my checking account for $153.

My question is do you think I can go back to making payments again? Or are they going to just continue to garnish my checking account. Also, how much are they allowed to take from the checking account? I owe about $2900. I'm currently making $6.50/hour at my job and the $153 they took was pretty much one weeks check. My paychecks are automatically deposited, so I fear they are just going to keep sucking the money out as soon as it gets in there.

I realize I have totally let this situation get out of hand and I am just unsure what to do now to make it right.

The creditor has no reason to lift the garnishee unless full payment is made for the remaining balance. Each State has their own maximum limits of amounts that can be garnished from an employees paycheck. There are also Federal requirements.
