State is Texas.

Started looking for house to buy before 1 year lease was up. I informed landlord of intent to buy house. Landlord said we were on a month to month lease when lease came due (which it did). Signed what we thought was a month to month lease. (Copier broke at home so did not make a copy but requested one). I did not receive a copy of the lease and continued asking for 3 months.
Bought house and gave landlord written 30 day notice as was written on lease. I received copy of lease for keys to property. (Landlord was in the house 5 days before the return of keys, cleaning/painting, rent was paid to end of month.)
The copy of the lease that I received now states a 1 year lease, (have witness to verbal month to month lease at signing).
Lease also includes 30 day notice hand written on bottom of lease.
Remember all I have is a copy of the lease.
Landlord now says I will be responsible of the entire lease.
Landlord will not meet with me to discuss nor return calls.
Landlord did not give me a opt out option.
Landlord did send a letter for rent for the next month rent.
Do I take him to small claims court for deposit.
Do I hire a lawyer?
Any options?

**A: did you sign a 1 year lease or not?

The lease states a one year lease, now.
It did not when I signed it.Nor did it state a month to month at that time.
Also states at the bottom
"Tenant to give 30 day notice before vacating this property."
This was not on my first lease.
Would the witness not hold in court?

Alos lease states at the bottom that the lease becomes effective when landloard delivers a copy signed by all parties.
This did not happen till after the move out.
