Submitted a two-week letter to vacate due to lost job and unemployment benefits denied. Had 3 months left on lease. Mgmt Co. sent 1 statement for balance on lease 6 mths later with a 2 week deadline to pay or would send to collection. Mgmt. Co. kept my deposits and sent me to collection. I have been paying $20.00 mth to collection agency for a year. Mgr of apt. complex told me that if they could not rent the apt. I would be expected to pay the remainder of the lease. I was put on a waiting list to move into this complex and lived there for 4 yrs. I find it difficult to believe they could not rent the apt. Should I continue to pay on this or fight it? I want to buy a house but need to get this off my credit rating. I live in Nevada.

YOU didnt follow up on this....you owe da money so pay it off.

If you had followed up on this...you know it is illegal for them to collect DOUBLE rent on the apartment...but you left and they screwed you....

You cant go back and make them reimburse you.

OH how can you afford to buy a house if $20 a month is going to kill you?

If You cant figure this stuff out, then dont buy a house!

It appears I made an error in assuming that I would get a respectful, polite response. What I got was a rude, sarcastic response. Not everyone is familiar with the laws which is why we come to this site. IF you are an attorney, you're the kind that gives the rest of them a bad name. However, I will say thank you for the time you spent responding.

GEEZ man you got a response you didnt like......

Becuase you came here trying to figure a way to screw them back.......

Well you will learn a lesson from this...

And I know you will be in bankruptcy pretty soon if you buy a house because you still haven't learned when you sign a contract you are obligated BY LAW to pay it!

UNLESS the other party agrees to let you out of it ..... IN WRITING!

And that you dont have...so pay da money and clear your credit!
